HANS MERENSKY NATURE RESERVE

On the banks of the Great Letaba River lies the Hans Merensky Nature Reserve, just west of the Kruger National Park and not far from Tzaneen. The main draw card to this beautiful reserve is the fact that you can walk most of it on foot.

MAKALALI CONSERVANCY



Also known as the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve and one of the country’s major privately owned conservation areas, Makalali Conservancy is over 22 000 hectares set in the Lowveld region of Limpopo, an hour west of the Phalaborwa gate of the Kruger National Park and roughly 80 kilometres from Hoedspruit.

MAKUTSI CONSERVANCY

The Makutsi Conservancy, in the heart of the Limpopo, lies adjacent to the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve - just 40 minutes' due east of the Kruger National Park. It lies on route 36 that links Tzaneen to the N4 from Pretoria, making it easily accessible and one of the easiest escapes for visitors to Johannesburg and Pretoria.

MODJADJI CYCAD RESERVE

The Modjadji Cycad Reserve is situated in the Lobedu Mountains near Duiwelskloof next to the home of the fabled rain queen and boasts some of the oldest and largest Cycad specimens on earth.

TZANEEN COUNTRY CLUB

On route from Tzaneen to Duiwelskloof, the Tzaneen golf course is a course which rewards good shot making and that can be set up with a high resistance to scoring. The Tzaneen Golf Course is reputed to be one of the fairest tests of golf in the Limpopo Province.

WOLKBERG WILDERNESS AREA

Lying just off the R71 outside Haenertsburg where the Drakensberg meets the Strydpoort Mountains, the Wolkberg Wilderness Area is a selected few hikers’ idea of bliss - the tracks through the awe-inspiring 22 000 hectare piece of paradise are pretty indistinct, meaning that a hiker can choose his own strenuous route and the number of days he spends bisecting the wilderness with his pack, staff and boots - although setting out alone through this particular wilderness is strongly discouraged.

AGATHA CROCODILE RANCH

Agatha Crocodile Ranch is situated on a picturesque avocado farm near Tzaneen, in Limpopo Province. This is a crocodile farm that offers adventurous daily tours through the ranch, with plenty of opportunities to touch baby crocodiles and to feed the bigger crocs. There is also a curio shop and local art gallery.

DAKTARI WILDLIFE ORPHANAGE

Daktari educates and inspires children to care for their environment through caring for orphan animals at a wildlife orphanage. It is an organisation of people who care, not only for animals and nature, but also for those less fortunate than themselves.

KRUGER PARK GAME DRIVES AND GAME WALKS

The Kruger National Park is steeped in legend and history, and one of South Africa’s most iconic tourist attractions. Enjoy game drives and walking safaris, where you can almost touch the Big 5, and enjoy the myriad smaller creatures that are residents there.

HUG THE BIG BAOBAB



Native legend explains that the giant Baobab tree was uprooted by the Gods and then shoved back into the soil, upside down, so that it would cease its complaining. Hence the appearance of the root-like branches which remain leafless in the sky for most of the year. The Big Baobab is large enough to house a pub inside its trunk, and is a wonderful place to savour some local fare.

MANGELA ANIMAL TOUCH FARM AND TEA GARDEN

A tranquil setting for adults to enjoy a meal and a drink, whilst their kids feed and pet the tame donkeys and rabbits, go for pony rides, or play on the jumping castle. A very affordable place to spend a day with your kids and friendly staff are on hand, to assist the children.

SAPEKOE TEA ESTATES

The Sapekoe Tea Estate is located in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Limpopo Province. The property comprises the Middelkop and Grenshoek Tea Estates – almost 1000 hectares - and is situated about 15 kilometres from Tzaneen.

TZANEEN DAM AND NATURE RESERVE

Tzaneen Dam is a very popular fishing and recreational spot just 10km north-west of Tzaneen. The Dam offers picnic spots, camping and caravanning, as well as boating and water-sport with approximately 350 species of bird recorded around the dam. The Tzaneen Dam Nature Reserve is surrounded by tropical fruit plantations and enjoys warm weather and water temperatures throughout the year.

EBENEZER DAM AND NATURE RESERVE

The Ebenezer Dam is well-known in the fly-fishing and fishing fraternity and the clear clean blue waters have seen many fly-fishing competitions such as the Bells Fly Fishing competition.The Ebenezer Mile Swim draws hundreds of swimmers from all over the country and has become a very popular annual event.

CHEERIO TROUT FISHING LODGE

A haven for nature lovers, fishermen, bird watchers, hikers and adventure addicts: you can fish, walk through scenic gardens or visit the nearby river. Alternatively, for the sporty, you can play tennis, table tennis, and darts or just relax at the swimming pool.
